Why DinnerSong?

Hi. I'm Dave Kliman, the creator of DinnerSong audio tapes. Here's why I created DinnerSong in the first place.

A few years ago, I had to move. At my old house, I had a bunch of thistle feeders, and a large population of Goldfinches coming to my house. When I had originally put up my thistle feeders, I remember the Goldfinches taking about a year to find my yard for the first time.

I didn't want to wait all that time again, so I figured I could record the food calls of the birds and then play them at my new home in the hopes of getting the birds to arrive sooner than a year.

So I made a recording of the Goldfinches and played it at my new house. They came within about 3 days. I was so pleased with the results that I decided that other people should benefit from my recordings also.

I went out and bought a couple thousand dollars worth of audio recording equipment and professionally recorded the necessary food calls from my own back yard. It was very difficult with the trains, planes, automobiles, lawn mowers, leaf blowers and everything else you could imagine.

I had to use my creativity to get good bird sounds. The fact is that I got about 10 seconds of usable sound per day of recording on the average. Once I got good sounds, though, I was able to conduct a 20 home test with DinnerSong tapes. What amazed me more than anything else was just how quickly birds came. Using the pure food calls on my DinnerSong tapes, people got Birds within not days, but minutes!

So far, I've produced tapes for American Goldfinches and Black Capped Chickadees. Coming soon are tapes for Cardinals, Titmice, Orioles, Nuthaches and other birds.
